Education Programs & Materials

The Northeast Ohio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® offers a variety of programs to educate our community members on Komen, breast health, early detection and breast cancer.

Komen Community Representatives

Komen Community Representatives (KCRs) are a group of dedicated volunteers who routinely represent Komen Northeast Ohio in the community. KCRs fulfill requests from organizations within the community, such as health fairs, speaking engagements, and survivor support groups. Komen Northeast Ohio works through its KCRs to promote breast health education.

KCRs are available to speak on the following topics:

  • Breast health and breast cancer
  • Early detection
  • Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Komen Northeast Ohio
  • Breast self-awareness

Survivor Symposium

Every year, Komen Northeast Ohio offers a free educational symposium for breast cancer survivors. This symposium, sponsored by University Hospitals and in partnership with The Gathering Place, allows survivors to network and offers information from University Hospitals physicians and surgeons, The Gathering Place support experts and a keynote speaker.

Komen Community Champions

The Komen Northeast Ohio Community Champions program engages key community members in the metropolitan areas within our 22 county service area. These key community members advocate on behalf of Komen Northeast Ohio and act as they eyes and ears of Komen in our outlying counties, using their knowledge and connections to assess and improve Komen’s visibility in their areas.

Because Champions can provide a more comprehensive and local understanding of their community, Komen can respond more effectively with faster and better targeted project implementation, more insightful grant funding decisions, and can build stronger relationships with decision-makers and other centers of influence.

For more information on the Community Champions program, please contact the Komen office at 216.292.CURE (2873).
