What is Happening in Your Community?

To fulfill our promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever, Susan G. Komen Northeast Ohio conducts a comprehensive assessment of the breast health and breast cancer needs within our 22 county service area every four years. This process is known as the Community Profile. Komen Northeast Ohio is currently investigating issues faced by the communities we serve as part of this process. The results of this research will be published in a Community Profile report in the summer of 2015. In order for us to complete the report and fully understand what is going on in our communities, we need to hear from you!  If you live in or know someone who lives in Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Harrison, Jefferson, Lorain, or Mahoning Counties, please take a few minutes to fill out an online survey and let us know what is going on in your neighborhood related to breast health and breast cancer. The information provided in these surveys will help Komen Northeast Ohio determine what kinds of education and service programs are needed and will assist us in granting out all of the monies raised by our dedicated fundraisers and Race participants.

The last Community Profile report, released by the Affiliate in 2009, found that while the state of Ohio ranks 32nd in breast cancer incidence, Ohio is fourth in the nation in overall breast cancer mortality. After investigating this issue, Komen Northeast Ohio found many barriers present for women in our communities, including financial limitations, transportation issues, language barriers, and fears of mammography and a breast cancer diagnosis. Komen Northeast Ohio’s grant funds and internal education programs were then tailored to address these specific needs. To access a full copy of the 2009 Community Profile report, please click here.  We ask all of our constituents to please forward the electronic links to these surveys on to anyone they know who may be interested in taking the survey. The online surveys will be open until October 15th 2014. Each person who completes these surveys gives their community a voice. These voices together help Komen Northeast Ohio paint an accurate picture of the needs in our service area. If you have any questions about the Community Profile, the grants process, or the surveys, please contact Gina Chicotel, Director of Mission, at (216) 292-2873 x112 or gchicotel@komenneohio.org.

*A limited number of paper surveys are available for those who do not have internet access.

Please call (216) 292-2873 x112 to request paper copies of the survey.
